This chapter is about: Piracy, bugs, and other "soft" threats
...the chapter talks about the fact that PCs and LANs bring many benefits,
but they also bring many risks. The chapter looks at some of the less obvious
risks, starting with software piracy, the illegal copying of programs. In
fact, the widespread use of personal computers and digital media creates
several other "risks" in the areas of privacy, intellectual property, and
legal liability. We conclude the chapter with a look at software and hardware
bugs that can threaten the integrity and availability of data.
Numbers to call to report software piracy:
- 1 800-785-3448 Microsoft
- 1 800 688 BSA1 Business Software Alliance
